The Research Financial Analyst I provide day-to-day post-award management of all grants and contracts awarded to DFCI. Safeguards all DFCI assets for grants while maintaining sound fiscal controls and compliance according to the terms and conditions set by each sponsor.
Requirements
He/she will be responsible for setting up project awards and amend projects as needed.
Communicates with Grants & Contracts any changes in grants data after award set up in PeopleSoft to ensure the data across different systems are in synch.
Interfaces with the IS team when necessary - open tickets when necessary by explaining issues.
Communicates with department and PIs throughout grant lifecycle and assists in the development and submission of all requests for a change of PI, no-cost extension requests, and budgeting requests.
Manages the financial administration of a diverse research portfolio of Non-federal and Federally sponsored grants and contracts of varied requirements and complexity.
Seeks guidance from more senior analysts as required.
Responsible for financial reporting and invoicing to sponsors.
Ensures that awards/accounts are managed in full compliance with applicable rules and regulations established by both the sponsor and as well as all pertinent DFCI's policies.
Ensures that financial data is accurate and timely, monitor receivables and receipt of funds.
Reviews and process non-personnel costs, transfers and personnel requests.
Processes incoming subcontract invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance before being paid.
Provides institutional oversight to ensure that all expenses posted to a sponsored project are allowable, and the accurate recording of these expenses on the general ledger is consistent with generally acceptable accounting principles (GAAP) and the sponsor's terms and conditions.
Participates in the close-out of funds including the preparation of closeout documents and closing entries.
Identifies opportunities to improve processes and systems (i.e. PeopleSoft & Infoed).
Coordinates and provides required audit filing documents as needed.
Expected to participate in special projects as necessary
Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
AS in Business or Accounting preferred. 0 to 2 years of pre or post-award grants management experience or related financial experience working in a business, medical or scientific research setting. Position requires some daily supervision of work assignments.
Knowledge of all federal regulations associated with managing federal grants and contracts
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels in and outside of DFCI
PeopleSoft skills highly desirable
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations associated with managing Federal grants
Ability to maintain favorable working relationships with a wide variety of professional groups
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to multi-task and function as an integral member of the team
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
PeopleSoft and Infoed knowledge beneficial Excellent problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires strong organization and communication skills with a focus in customer service.
