Electrical SEA Coach



Position Summary:

Life Cycle Engineering is looking for a qualified Electrical SEA Coach to join our team in Apra Harbor, Guam. The selected candidate will obtain their SEA Coach certification and provide over the shoulder technical support and engineering best practices guidance, as well as small group and work center level training on various electrical trade skills and techniques to Fleet Maintenance Activity Sailors assigned to the two Submarine Tenders in Guam. This SEA Coach position is an "on the deckplate" opportunity for molding the Navy's Submarine Repair Technicians of the future.



Contract Requirements:



  • Must be a US citizen with a CURRENT and ACTIVE DoD Secret security clearance.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Assist Fleet Maintenance Activity Personnel in planning, training for and execution of primarily Submarine Repairs at an intermediate maintenance activity level during 3 month rotational periods throughout the year.

  • Assist Maintenance Personnel in developing assessment and repair skills and techniques to assure first time quality repairs to forward deployed Naval Vessels. Assessment skill and maintenance technique training topics cover a wide range depending on Sailor experience and repair complexity and may include:

    • Identification and documenting of system and/or equipment "as found" problems

    • Identification of scope of work through use of historical repair documents and shipchecks

    • Basic to advanced tooling and test equipment usage and understanding of testing results

    • Develop and provide on-the job training (OJT) based on observed trends in maintenance skills

    • Assess Work Center tooling and test equipment for recommended upgrades to improve efficiency or throughput capacity

    • Provide over the shoulder guidance during in progress work onboard Naval Units to enable Sailors to successfully complete all assigned tasks on an extremely wide range of electrical equipment and systems




Required Education, Skills, and Experience:


  • Minimum of ten (10) years of electrical maintenance experience in the operation, repair, maintenance and assessment of US Naval vessel electrical equipment to include but not limited to:


    • AC and DC Electrical Motors of various sizes and designs including motor rewinding, Submarine Motor Generator repair including commutator and slip-ring stoning, Switchboard repairs, Cable replacement and repair techniques for interior and exterior cabling including termination and splicing, Electrostatic Precipitator repair, IC circuit repairs, Tank level probe and indication systems, Electrical Hull Penetration and Fitting repairs including replacement and insert repairs, familiarity with Submarine Sail cabling and Mast and Antenna position indication systems and support circuits.



  • Demonstrate an ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, technical manuals, and historical TGIs and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide Naval Maintenance Personnel in preparation and execution of maintenance using these documents

  • Familiarity with current electrical test equipment used to isolate faults and retest repairs.

  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.


Physical Demands and Expectations:


  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting / kneeling may be required.

  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment

  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.

  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
