The Ohio Department of Health’s Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection

is seeking one (1) candidate to fill our temporary Epidemiology Investigator 1 position.

Official Position Description

Assists healthy homes and lead poisoning prevention program manager in investigation and control of infectious and chronic diseases and related environmental public health problems, collects and/or monitors collection of human biological and environmental specimens, assure delivery to laboratory and writes or assists in writing reports of investigations: Abstracts and analyzes epidemiological health data from confidential sources (e.g., Healthy Housing and Lead Poisoning Surveillance System (HHLPSS), EpiInfo, SAS, Stata); establishes exposure and evaluates risk of disease or epidemic; uses research methodologies and models to completes data projects related to the state’s blood lead testing efforts and various state advisory boards.

Operates personal computer to enter and retrieve data and to generate documents (e.g., quality assurance reports, medical and environmental case management reports, correspondence to providers, grant applications); transports and sets up audio/visual equipment (weighing up to 50 pounds) and demonstrates Ohio Department of Health (ODH) web applications and other software to local health departments, primary care providers, elected officials and other decision makers in order to address healthy homes issues. Reviews and analyzes problems and issues to be researched (e.g., uses systems to create reports to identify children that are required to be tested). 

Assists supervisor in revising program guidelines, standards, and policy and procedure manuals; prepares and maintains required records and reports using HHLPSS and other ODH web applications; prepares articles for inclusion in newsletters; conducts research/literature reviews and attends meetings, training, seminars and conferences to keep abreast of trends and legislative changes and other developments affecting assigned area(s) of expertise (e.g., healthy homes, screening, identification sources of exposure, medical case management, environmental case management, program definitions and protocols, statutes and regulations, physical resources, human resources, coordination with outside entities, data management, information and education, financing).

This position is unclassified in accordance with ORC 124.11(A)(29).

Completion of undergraduate core program in physical/natural sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, microbiology) to include coursework in each of following areas: biology, chemistry, microbiology & human anatomy; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in statistics; valid driver's license.
