Medtronic's Tempe, Arizona location is looking for a Principal Product Engineer - Integrated Circuit Released Product Engineering. This position will support the Medtronic Mission for unsurpassed quality and reliability in our medical devices by working with microelectronics components and materials sourced from suppliers.

A Day in the Life

In this is a dynamic role, you will partner closely with Manufacturing as well as Design, Test Engineering, Quality, Reliability and Regulatory. You will work within a team environment to drive product engineering activities for released products.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


  • Responsible for technical aspects of a group of integrated circuits
  • Work closely with other Medtronic functions to meet Quality, Cost and Delivery initiatives
  • Responsible for engineering activities associated with components purchased from suppliers to ensure components, materials, and suppliers meet specified requirements and performance, reliability and safety goals. This includes:

    • Applying principles of microelectronics, chemistry, physics and material behaviors to develop and execute test / process improvement plans.
    • Applying knowledge of supplier and internal manufacturing methods, procedures, inspection, and tests techniques to resolve issues.
    • Applying statistical methods to ensure feature-level capability and performance.

  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive root cause and final resolution of yield related issues
  • Travel <10>

  • Responsible for production support engineering with respect to testing methods, procedures, and problems; product specification and yield problems; minor redesign of devices and masks; analysis of customer returns; supplier related engineering changes and optimizing production relative to cost constraints.
  • Assume responsibility for products and/or internally produced or externally purchased components after transfer into high-volume production.

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Experience or knowledge in device physics of integrated circuits
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing
  • Experience with advanced test systems used to test integrated circuits
  • Experience with statistical software applications, such as JMP or Minitab
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge and experience in Design of Experiments
