Job Summary:
Responsible for engaging in automation engineering activities supporting Maintenance department projects and initiatives increasing plant productivity and capacity. Assists in Maintenance Work preparations to improve work efficiencies and increase plant performance. Identifies and prioritizes multiple projects and performs work with a constant awareness of improving processes. Develops reports, metrics, and other tracking tools from control systems. Supports Corporate Automation processes and equipment and systems. Coordinates contractors and drives the execution of site changes. Participates in the investigation of process deviations by providing expertise for process evaluation and product improvements for better quality and yield. Supports all policies, goals and objectives of the company, follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety procedures while performing job duties.

Job Description:

suESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                        


  • Troubleshoots, modifies or upgrades standard and special purpose process control system programming and equipment.  

  • Develops and manages schedule of contract automation support personnel.

  • Partners with production and maintenance planners, site leadership, equipment vendors and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate new technology installations, upgrades, or overhauls.

  • Acts as the technical consultant for capital projects related to automated equipment within the Site.

  • Develops maintenance procedures in partnership with maintenance planner to maximize the usable life of assets and provide the greatest equipment availability to production.

  • Modifies and tests existing control systems based on customer specifications and develop documentation for changes.

  • Ensures all food safety, site safety, and all legal requirements are being observed and adhered to on all tasks/projects.

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement and cost reduction projects/initiatives.

  • Supports performance management of team members; engages in developing and training site automation staff.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS                                                                                            


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in the Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering discipline.

  • 3 years  Automation controls engineering experience.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering processes.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills: can take data and input that is not well organized and organize it in a way that makes analysis possible and be able to proactively solve problems.

  • Proficient in computer skills using software in word processing, spreadsheets and relational database systems.

  • Experienced working under and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Proven experience with the following automation service activities including; understanding Piping/Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), reading and troubleshooting/repairing hard-wired control systems using schematic and wiring diagrams.

  • Capable of troubleshooting, online and offline programming and configuring PLC ladder logic and HMI/ SCADA database and screens

  • Must have proven experience in hands-on programming and configuration of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) such as the following manufacturers hardware and software products. 

  • SAP, Project Management.

  • This position supports a 24x7 operation and will be required to provide support to off-shift teams as well as weekend coverage.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES


  • Capable of troubleshooting and configuring automation network systems  

  • Knowledgeable of field instrumentation including transmitters, actuators and signal converters  

  • Knowledgeable of IT/IS systems and equipment, NEC classifications and NEMA ratings, Rockwell: PLCs, Panelview OITs.      

  • Experience with network protocols including Ethernet TCP/IP, OPC, Allen Bradley DH+/DH485, and DNET, Metasys N1, N2. 

  • Experience with Invensys: Intouch Wonderware SCADA, inBatch, Rockwell: RSLogix, RSLinx, RSView.       

  • Familiar with local and federal code requirements such as FDA CFR, NFPA/ NEC, OSHA, DEP, and EPA.

  • Familiar with process and utility equipment Clean/ Sterilize In Place systems (CIP/ SIP) systems, Building HVAC equipment controls, steam generation, air compressor and water/wastewater treatment systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Required to physically move throughout the facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas.  Able to sit/work at a desk for extended periods of time doing things such as analytical work or reports, which requires focus, while utilizing a computer. Some inter-company travel,

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Office environment but also will be required to work in a Plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations and wet operating work conditions.  Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking.
