Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for execution of all functions related to receipt and shipment of products to and from the Branford facility. Responsible for entering invoices into company or customer systems and moving customer owned and raw materials to proper location.

Job Responsibilities

Electronic Duties: Input data into company and customer systems. A strong knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer programs are necessary.


  • Generate shipping documents, certificates of conformance, export paperwork.
  • Input received items into Oracle system.
  • Perform all order entry/receiving functions for customer product and raw materials.
  • Enter customer returns into Return Database and move to designated quality return area
  • Generate shipping documents, packing slips, air bills, certificate of conformance and custom papers.
  • Approve freight bills on-line
  • Set-up packages, shipping label and complete all paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Weigh all boxes to determine shipping costs and record data on bill of lading or carrier log sheets covering each order. Generate necessary paperwork and distribute to appropriate sources as needed.
  • Generate routers on all incoming parts and verify quantity (counting each part) and casting number to routing sheet. Move all products to first operation.
  • Receive and verify all materials and product. Count incoming and outgoing product to verify accuracy against paperwork. Move products and materials to their proper locations.
  • Deliver and/or pick up orders at other departments. Maintain and file copies of all invoice & packing slips.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate MSO files and documentation.

File Maintenance: Filing and file maintenance for record retention is a critical part of this role.

  • Initiate and maintain incoming and outgoing paperwork for receipts and shipments
  • Maintain/control incoming supplier & customer hold crib provide daily inventory to supervisor.
  • Maintain up to date and organized files covering areas of responsibility, including incoming supplier orders and outgoing customer Bill of Lading.

Customer Service:

  • Answers telephone, forward customer calls to appropriate representative.
  • Call carriers and coordinate schedule for pick-ups to meet daily shipments.
  • Respond to all inquiries received covering shipments from internal and external sources Email or Fax reports and information to customers.

Miscellaneous:

  • Maintain and order shipping supplies.
  • Operate mobile forklift to place and remove products from delivery trucks.
  • Ability to use proper and safe containerization methods for all hazardous waste.
  • Adhere to all company safety rules and practices and wears protective equipment as directed.
  • Ensure that all gates and barriers are closed at all time
  • Perform other job duties as needed or directed by department Supervisor or management.

Job Specifications

Education :

This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Skills and Abilities :


  • Ability to operate a personal computer using various Windows applications such as: Microsoft Word and Excel, RFMS System and Oracle systems.
  • Good telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Comfortable working on several projects at the same time under heavy pressure of schedules.
  • Ability to work independently. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to maneuver mobile forklift to load and unload trucks. Follow all Howmet Branford mobile equipment safety policies.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work in a group/team environment.
Experience :

This position requires a minimum of 1 year of previous shipping and receiving experience. Our ideal candidate will have this year of experience from a manufacturing or warehouse distribution facility environment.

A minimum of 1 year previous experience operating a forklift mandatory.
