UCSF Fresno is a major educational and clinical branch of UCSF that is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley. The UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine (DOM) directs patient care activities at VACCHS, Community Medical Centers and affiliated institutions. UCSF Fresno oversees the education and training of residents in internal medicine, and conducts research in both education and clinical care.

Job Summary

As part of the research component of the Department, a Research Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, working with research protocols for drug procurement, storage, and security, safe accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs, to Community Medical Centers, UCSF Fresno Clinical Research Center and other facilities affiliated with CMC where research is being conducted. Drug information services for clinicians and patients, assists with monitoring visits of patients in clinical trials, participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs. They may also participate in the computer entries of medications/prescriptions, including entries of special medications in the patient profile as directed by the pharmacist. The individual will work in the Department of Medicine, but will also provide services to other departments within UCSF Fresno. The individual is accountable to the supervising Pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by Pharmacist Services of the Hospital.

The Research Pharmacy Technician will typically perform the full range of specialized duties in all specialized functional areas within investigational drug research. Specialized function areas include but are not limited to the following: In-Patient research, Ambulatory Care research & Oncology research. Specialized duties include but are not limited to such activities as the handling of controlled drugs, mixing of extemporaneous drug preparations, and compounding hazardous and non-hazardous IV preparations.

Please Note: This is a full-time limited appointment for 1 year starting from the date of hire (not to exceed 1000 hours).

Required Qualifications

* Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) [National Certification]

* Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing

* Minimum 5 years of Pharmacy Technician experience

* Minimum 3 years of IV preparation experience

* Experience working with health professionals in a hospital and/or clinic settings

* Ability to operate effectively in a changing organization and technological environment

* Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations

* Ability to assess and respond to audit risk

* Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
