The Infection Prevention Program at Tulane Health System serves Tulane Medical Center and Outpatient Clinics as well as Tulane-Lakeside Women's and Children's Hospital, and Lakeview Regional Hospital. The Infection Prevention program is an essential part of the Health System's overall commitment to quality and patient safety as we continuously work toward our mission of providing world class patient care, education, and research.

The Infection Preventionist is trained in hospital epidemiological principles and is responsible for the following activities for Tulane Health System: 1. surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAIs), 2. education of employees, 3. development of Performance Improvement and Infection Prevention plans and programs, and 4. validation of rigorous infection control standards that meet or exceed state and national regulatory recommendations and requirements.

ABOUT THIS UNIT:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Performs surveillance activities and applies an epidemiological approach to problem solving

* Employs written criteria for defining colonization, site specific infections, and community acquired versus hospital acquired infections when monitoring patients

* Interprets results of laboratory findings

* Assesses patients' status by chart review and observation

* Initiates isolation/precautions when necessary

* Performs frequent rounds on units and departments

* Initiates epidemiologic investigation of all significant clusters of infection and recommends actions to control infection

* Analyzes and interprets results of surveillance data to identify patterns and trends

* Disseminates data to stakeholders in a meaningful way

* Provides formal and informal educational programs to health care providers and staff members

* Evaluates products and equipment

* Participates in interdisciplinary performance improvement activities

* Reports communicable infectious diseases to the Louisiana Office of Public Health according to the Sanitary Code.

QUALIFICATIONS QUALIFICATIONS:

* LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required.

* EDUCATION: Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Laboratory Sciences, or similar health related field.

* EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of experience in infection prevention is required. Experience in infection prevention in acute care settings is preferred.

* Dedication to quality patient care and patient outcomes

* Ability to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds

* Comprehension of patient care practices, microbiology, epidemiology, and statistics

* Knowledge of teaching and learning principles necessary for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs

* Knowledgeable of current regulatory requirements related to infection prevention.

* Computer literacy

* Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a positive manner, verbally and written.

* Sets priorities and is self-motivated in completing ordinary and/or assigned tasks.

* Professional, creative, and dependable.

* WORK SCHEDULE: FULL-TIME - MONDAY-FRIDAY(8:00 AM-5:00 PM)
