Job Description:

As an Industrial Engineer intern within our Manufacturing Center of Excellence, you’ll be involved in strategic projects that make an impact to the organization and will gain skills which will help prepare you for a full-time career.

The Manufacturing Center of Excellence (COE) is part the Global Supply Chain organization at SC Johnson and is focused on the performance of over 30 manufacturing sites on six continents worldwide. This COE provides the building blocks for a LEAN culture to grow at all SCJ manufacturing sites to achieve breakthrough performance for the benefit of the company, employees, and our internal customers.

What might I be doing?



  • Mining Data for Insights:  We have data that flows in from our manufacturing sites daily and helps detect both real-time issues and longer-term opportunities.  You may be asked to mine the data to help with insights and/or to help automate the data mining process.


  • Improving Data Availability:  Much of our data is housed in a central database and is shared via SharePoint and other reporting tools.  You may be asked to help ensure the database is working properly or to help make the data more accessible and understandable for 600 users worldwide.


  • Creating and Refining Processes:  We are always looking to remove non-value-added activities from processes to make them more robust and error proof.  You make be asked to work with stakeholders to document and improve a process so that it creates a win for all parties and SCJ.


  • Making Presentations:  In a large organization, presentations are often needed to update others and align them with our work.  You will be asked to make presentations to members at all levels of the organization about your internship and as you work on other projects.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Undergraduate student with a major in Industrial Engineering with a graduation date in 2023

  • GPA of 3.5 and above preferred

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; At this time SC Johnson is not sponsoring foreign nationals in an immigration case to gain full-time work authorization

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

You’ll be a great fit for this internship if you have demonstrated skills or experience in the following:



  • Analytical Ability:  Problem solving is at the heart of what we do.  Ability to understand a problem and work with others to find the root cause(s) and solutions are needed.


  • Interpersonal Skills:  We are a large organization that operates 24/7 and the majority of our team members’ first language is not English.  Confidence and experience working at multiple levels of organizations is needed.  Experiences working cross-culturally and/or proficiency in languages other than English are preferred.


  • Microsoft Office:  We rely heavily on the Microsoft Office suite of programs.  Demonstrated experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is needed.  Experience writing macros (VBA), using Power Query (Power BI), or using similar tools is preferred.


  • Database Knowledge:  Much of our data is housed in a central database.  Experience with the basics of a database (i.e., tables, queries, data types, etc.) and/or SQL or another database programming language is preferred.


  • Process Improvement:  Coursework and or experience with LEAN, Six Sigma, Agile or similar continuous improvement methodology is preferred.


  • Manufacturing:  Manufacturing line experience or relevant coursework is preferred.
