Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a Design Sponsor in our growing Design Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects

As a Design Sponsor, you will manage design on design-build infrastructure pursuits and projects. Design-Build infrastructure projects include transportation, transit, technical bridge, hydro-electric, and water/waste water projects. The Design Manager will be responsible for administering, assisting and managing design to meet project financial, schedule, and construction objectives, consistent with Kiewits Standard Operating Procedures.

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineerings Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Location

This position is based out of our New Jersey location and typically requires 50-75 percent travel across the United States and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate best practices from project execution

  • Leading pursuit of design-build projects

  • Lead team of Kiewit design engineers and subconsultants for design build projects

  • Identify design-build opportunities and develop win strategy for capture

  • Interface and maintain relationships with external design partners

  • Manage deliverables, quality and compliancy

  • Interface with other Kiewit operating districts

  • Interface with construction project leadership (Db coordinators and others)

  • Ensures Kiewits Standard Operating Procedures are communicated and followed

  • Controls cost of the design and all engineering services

  • Manages quantities and constructability throughout the design process.

  • Has the flexibility to work within multiple design disciplines

  • Monitors and reports progress against design schedule

  • Partners with design discipline lead and construction estimator/superintendent to meet project objectives

  • Mentor junior staff with technical and professional development

  • Design quality management plan champion for the design team

  • Develop project budgets, schedules and staffing plans for KIE pursuits and final design projects

    Qualifications



  • Ability to travel as needed (50-75%)

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree

  • 20+ years experience with focus on Design-Build Management

  • Prior work experience on managing transportation project valuing $500M+

  • PE required

  • 10 or more years of managing an engineering and design team of at least 20 or more

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
