Summary

The Corporate Accountant - Fixed Assets will work with the accounting group and report directly to the Controller. The objective of this position is to manage the fixed asset accounting process and prepare recurring financial reports and analyze financial information. Additional focus areas may include cash management and accounts payable.

Strong understanding and application of US GAAP. Requires minimal supervision. Self-directed and self-motivated. Requires a high level of initiative and task completion. Manages details while maintaining focus on overall goals and strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Oversee fixed asset accounting requirements, including capitalization policies, depreciation schedules, additions, disposals and regular reporting.

- Assist with financial reporting to prepare and coordinate regular monthly and quarterly financial reports.

- Assist with coordination and preparation of periodic forms filed with the SEC (Forms 10Q and 10K).

- Perform reconciliations of financial information to other departments and data sources.

- Collaborate with Property Accounting department to support overall department goals and objectives

- Monitor daily cash management, process bank transfers or ACHs and post daily activity to the general ledger

- Prepare audit materials and interact with internal and external auditors.

- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare and post entries to the general ledger and/or a subsidiary journal.

- Maintain subsidiary journals/databases. Evaluate subsidiary journals/databases for errors and omissions and post corrections in the general ledger. Perform detailed review, analysis, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

- Perform variance analysis on financial data.

- Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department

- Assist with internal control compliance.

- Act as backup to other Corporate Accounting positions.

- Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.

Within 1 month:

- Understand IRET's company culture and be able to navigate different communication and work styles

- Understand and be able to navigate our accounting software and ancillary tools that complement it

- Review the processes of the Corporate Accountant-Fixed Assets, building on your current understanding of accounting principles, in relation to the nuances of the IRET's needs

Within 2 months:

- Own your month-end processes

- Analyze budget versus actual variances for your area and suggest corrections, if needed

- Work independently on day to day duties of fixed assets, cash management, and reconciliation procedures

Within 6 months:

- Fully understand your area and identify opportunities for process improvements

- Work with other departments on ways to better support their needs. Gain an understanding of how you can best interact and communicate with other staff to achieve mutual goals

- Broaden exposure to other areas within the corporate accounting department
