The Department of Microbiology and Immunology comprises an interactive faculty engaged in research in infectious disease and host immune response. Our lab focuses on understanding the dynamics of immune cell trafficking, migration and effector function, using cutting edge in vivo imaging, single cell ex vivo assays, and genetic analysis, in models of inflammation and infectious disease. We seek a highly-organized, self-motivated technician to perform experiments, analyze data, and support the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

Responsibilities include the following:
- Mouse colony maintenance (breeding, weening, screening, bookkeeping)
- Contribute to the planning and troubleshooting of experiments
- Perform a wide variety of experimental assays/procedures including but not limited to: flow cytometry, FACS, ELISA, ELISPOT, immunofluorescence, tissue sectioning, tissue clearance, bead and complement based cell enrichment, cell culture, multiphoton (in vivo) and confocal microscopy.
- Preform basic molecular and biochemical techniques such as DNA isolation from tissue, PCR, western blot, gel electrophoreses, and transfection/transduction
- Utilize standard software for data analyses, visualization, and presentation (FlowJo, Imaris, Graphpad, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of the laboratory including inventory management and ordering, maintaining and aliquoting of common reagents, and training of new staff/trainees.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal.

Required Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Biology or related field with at least two years of relevant laboratory experience. Basic laboratory math skills are required. Excellent manual dexterity, interpersonal and organizational skills. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must have excellent reasoning skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently. Candidates must be comfortable working with BSL-2 pathogens, hazardous chemicals, and mice. Must be able to complete required Cornell training courses (i.e. animal use and chemical safety).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and working knowledge of basic immunology. Experience working with CD4 T cells is highly desired (but not required). Experienced in the management of mouse colonies, tissue harvests from mice, and subcutaneous and intravenous injections of mice. The designing, execution, and analysis of multi-color flow cytometry panels/experiments. The designing, execution, and analysis of fluorescent based microscopy experiments. Multiphoton microscopy experience is highly desired (but not required). On the job training will be supplied to help bridge any deficiencies in experience.
