OPPDs Corporate Marketing & Communications is looking for a Brand Journalism Strategist to join their team!

This role is responsible for the following:


  • Creates comprehensive strategy of OPPD's content marketing/brand journalism channels, including OPPD The Wire .

  • Partners with Corporate Marketing & Communication (CMC) peers to develop and oversee an overall content strategy for this channel, which should ultimately further the utility's customer satisfaction and reputational goals.

  • Works closely with the Media Specialist to develop a roadmap for proactive media pitches and thought leadership opportunities as well as the Digital Channel Strategist to develop integrated content plans for social media.

  • Participates in storm, incident and business continuity communication activities as needed.

Specific accountabilites for the Brand Journalism Strategist include:
Create comprehensive, 12-month brand journalism channel and content strategy to effectively achieve business outcomes around customer satisfaction, outreach and customer education.


  • Regularly evaluates content and channel effectiveness and implements new approaches and strategies to improve engagement. Conducts channel audits and uses data to identify personas for each channel to create a strong foundation for content strategy.

  • Partners with CMC peers, Customer Experience and Product Development & Marketing on channel and content plans that help achieve mutual goals (i.e., energy efficiency education, customer engagement, etc.)

  • Creates short and long-term editorial plans that demonstrate deep understanding of public perceptions and industry issues. Weighs risks and complexity of external factors in guiding and influencing message development.

  • Follows and support industry communication efforts

  • Takes into account competing and changing priorities, resources, and time demands to produce plans that are realistic and achievable

  • Proactively raises concerns regarding possible roadblocks and provides solutions

  • Owns day-to-day vendor relationship for brand journalism channels


Responsible to set brand journalism goals and create programs to achieve them.

  • Manage online presence by driving, tracking and listening to users.

  • Analyze, review and report on effective brand journalism sites and tactics.

  • Evolve, improve and update information when needed based on trends and content performance.

  • Align content and overall voice with corporate brand guidelines.

  • Provide regular performance analysis, as well as special reporting following major storms or crises, or other issues of interest to management.


Manage brand journalism editorial calendar and proactively create, curate and distribute company content to ensure continuous and optimized presence.

  • Provide support to internal teams and assist in developing key messages specific for brand journalism channels.

  • Select appropriate digital channels to maximize content delivery.


Participate in off-hours and storm & outage response efforts as needed.

  • Work as part of communication team to create and execute external communication strategies during incident, storm and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) activities as appropriate.

  • Proactively creates strategies to capture and communicate compelling content that provides context for customers during storm and incident events.

Qualifications

Required:


  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field

  • Five (5) years of experience in external communication and/or media relations, including crisis and incident response

  • Expert knowledge of AP style and a minimum of five (5) years of editing and writing experience for an external audience or news outlet.

  • Knowledge of online content management platforms


Desired:

  • Master's Degree in Communication or related field

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expertise
