Overview
The Enrichment Science Research and Engineering Division (ESRED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the national steward for research, development, and demonstration of centrifuge technology innovations; advances electromagnetic isotope separations technology; and delivers stable isotopes for medical, industrial, and DOE mission critical applications. To successfully execute this important set of missions, ESRED is currently seeking a highly qualified security professional to serve as the division security operations lead. The successful candidate will team with division director and staff to build on a rich history of accomplishments in enrichment science and engineering and deliver critical national security advances, stable isotope process developments, and a wide range of enriched stable isotopes.
Purpose
This position provides specialized security operations leadership for critical programs and projects within the Enrichment Science Research and Engineering Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementation, compliance, and documentation of security operations to ensure facility and program security interests are protected in accordance with applicable DOE orders. Primary duties will include protection of Special Nuclear Material (SNM), classified matter, government property, and persons. This work will be performed in accordance with Standards-Based Management Systems (SBMS) and work control processes.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and communicate security plans for ESRED facilities, projects, and events as required to support administration of the security program
- Lead and execute in a manner that support a culture that reflects integrated safety management and safe conduct of secure operations
- Collaborate with ORNL security and technical personnel to implement division- and project-level security plans, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in maintenance of standards for Security Areas to meet DOE and S&S requirements
- Perform special S&S assignments/projects as determined by management
- Have in-depth knowledge of physical security protection elements and S&S disciplines and recommend and implement solutions in coordination with key ORNL organizations and DOE stakeholders
- Lead and execute physical security surveys
- Manage perimeter security, including signage and lighting

Qualifications Required
Due to the technical nature of the position and the requirements to relate to a broad spectrum of Laboratory technical and scientific disciplines, a bachelor's degree from an accredited university and equivalent of ten years' experience in security related activity is required.
- Experience in procedure and report writing is required
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills required
- The ability to work independently and as a team member exercising good judgment and responsibility is required
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS-Office software, are required
- Experience in DOE Safeguards & Security operations is desired
- Familiarity with SAP and SBMS is desired

This position requires an active Q clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
