Account Manager - Small Group, Experienced at Blue Shield of CA

Job Description:

- Retention and growth of Small Employer Groups

- Uses sales concepts and company policies/procedures to solve varied problems

- Follow standard practices/procedures in analyzing situations or data to come to resolution

- Meet with broker to keep them informed of our products, online tools, and resources

- Conduct open enrolment meetings as needed for employer groups

- Uses general knowledge of BSCA products: including TRIO, Tandem PPO, and Specialty products with some knowledge on how they compare to competitive offerings to support accounts and retention goals

- Uses general understanding of BSCA and BSCA product value propositions based on client buyer type to support accounts

- Uses general understanding of upcoming developments in the healthcare market (healthcare reform, state and local healthcare legislation, new entrants, customer need shifts)

- Clearly articulate thoughts and present BSCA prepared presentation decks

- General understanding of the renewal process

- Builds client relationships through brokers

- Inquires to understand client needs

- Updates Shield Link with accurate, thorough, and timely information

- Uses resources on Shield Central, has general understanding of some contacts in other departments

- Uses available resources to complete back-office tasks and solve problems. General understanding of BSC tools and systems: Shield Link, Shield Central, FACETs

- General understanding of processes that involve other functional groups: EDI, I&B, UW, Claims and Producer Services

- Generally, requires moderate to thorough experience in sales or marketing

- Typically has a bachelor's degree

- 2-4 years of Health Plan sales experience

- Has negotiating skills

- Current life license required

- Expert knowledge of the health care industry and related benefit products and services

- Expert knowledge of cost management strategies

- Proven track record of understanding the customer and their underlying needs

- Proven excellence in account management skills and account retention

- Can interpret and articulate reasoning behind rate calculations

- Excellent negotiation skills

- Requires practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience

- Typically, requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience

- Physical Requirements:
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
