Job Summary:
This hourly position is part of Milliken Chemical's Performance Colorants & Ingredients Business. The position provides research and development of new products and applications as well as support of current products. The position is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC and reports to the Development Manager. Hours of work are typically Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with some flex time and occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform chemical synthesis
- Perform purification/isolation and anlytical characterization
- Work with chemical processing machinery in a lab environment
- Test different formulations to determine performance; understand how to optimize formulation to maximize value
- Develop experimental lab test methods that simulate and predict actual field performance
- Understand cause and effect in experimental design
- Maintain clean and safe work environments; participate fully in the safety process
- Work effectively with members of a team to achieve project targets and deadlines
- Organize and effectively communicate results and new ideas
- Be able to work on multiple/different projects at the same time

Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related technical field or 5 years of relevant work experience
- Helpful to have strong synthetic experience, aptitude, or training
- Helpful to have experience working in a chemical laboratory setting; including safely handling and mixing chemicals, documenting experiments, and operating scientific equipment
- Proficient in use of the scientific method, critical thinking, and problem solving
- Ability to follow instructions as well as to work independently
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
