Job Description:

The Account Manager, Experienced is a member of the CalPERS team and responsible for creating, developing, and managing relationships with CalPERS employer groups (State of California, Public Agencies, School Districts and Charter Schools) and for retaining and growing membership. In this role, you will partner very closely with the Blue Shield CalPERS team and cross-functional internal business partners.

This role is strategic and requires a combination of focus, flexibility, and willingness to play an active role in our overall relationship with CalPERS employer groups and engagement with our members. As a key member of the CalPERS team, we seek a driven self-starter and resourceful individual with strong relationship development, time management, verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the sales, retention and support of CalPERS programs to CalPERS employer groups (State of California, Public Agencies, School Districts and Charter Schools), staff, Health Benefit Officers (HBO) and members

Build strong, sustainable, and value adding trusting partnerships

-

Applies initiative and independent judgement to resolve non-routine problems

-

Understands underwriting methodology

-

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, especially in the area of year-round events to promote the CalPERS line of business

Assist in the planning, development and implementation of client strategies associated with open enrollment and Health Benefit Officer engagement

-

Create and facilitate presentations for internal and external audiences

-

Represent the organization at trainings, client events including wellness meetings, open enrollment fairs, new agency meetings, and educational event

Organize, and execute HBO Seminars prior to Open Enrollment

-

Take the lead in the field scheduling of multiple Open Enrollment events in assigned territory

Assist in the training of internal and temporary volunteers for Open Enrollment purposes

Partner with the CalPERS team and marketing to develop collateral to promote scheduled events

Lead the implementation of client specific programs and pilots

Responsible for heightening community awareness about Blue Shield of CA and the various programs that we offer

- 2-4 years of Health Insurance experience in Account Management with a focus on CalPERS preferred, a Federal Employee program or Labor and Trust
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- Working knowledge of the health care industry and related benefit products and services
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
- Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment
- Track record of understanding the customer and their underlying needs
- Must be comfortable speaking in both face-to-face and large group scenarios
- Able to function independently with minimal oversight and direction
- Current health and life license required
- Approximately 50% CA based local territory travel

- Physical Requirements:
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
