Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for performing calibrations and layout evaluations for new/existing gages and fixtures, issuing and receiving gages, and performing first-article product layout. This position may require the flexibility to work any shift.

SHIFT 3

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Perform complex calibrations and layout evaluations for new/existing gages and fixtures using approved standards, techniques, and equipment in and outside of the Metrology lab.

  • Perform first-article layout evaluations for new products, gages, fixtures, and tooling using approved standards, techniques, and equipment in the Metrology lab.

  • Use shop math to calculate data and evaluate data.

  • Responsible for accurate record-keeping of gage status in Gage Tracking software.

  • Train new department employees in the use and maintenance of certain Metrology lab equipment and maintenance of related documentation.

Expected Areas of Competence


  • Ability to work with minimum supervision. Responsible for making decisions related to your own work and that of others within broad guidelines established by department supervisor or manager.

  • Ability to build relationships with other areas of the organization.  Daily contact with Quality technicians, Quality Control Inspectors, and tool and die makers.  Weekly communications with Gage Design engineers, Quality Engineers, Production supervisors or managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Buyers.

Education/Experience Requirements


  • High School Diploma

  • 2 years of Calibration experience.

  • Competent in mathematics (geometry, trigonometry, algebra) and basic statistics

  • Working knowledge of nearly all measurement equipment used within Metrology (super micrometer, linear height gage, surface measuring instrument, form tester, LabMaster universal tester, optical comparator, contour tracer, vision systems, manual height gages, general inspection tools, etc.).

  • Ability to read and interpret gage drawings and identify symbols used on them.

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Understanding of pertinent ANSI/ISO standards and calibration methods/techniques.
