SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION
The LGBT Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Gender Equity intern will serve member of the Diversity & Inclusion team at MMC. The intern will assist the Director of Diversity & Inclusion with designing, developing and implementing programs and initiatives that serve the LGBTQ+ community in Monmouth & Ocean Counties. The main focuses of the internship s strategic work to ensure MMC provide culturally competent care, increase equal access and equitable health care to the LGBTQ+ and other underserved communities. The role will assist the D&I Director in planning community outreach educational event to address health disparities and social impact.
SECTION III: RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the internship is to provide support to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Monmouth Medical Center
* Assist in the creation of LGBT community resources and contact lists in Monmouth & Ocean counties
* Assist in the development and distribution of educational materials for LGBTQ+ youth.
* Assist in the development of outreach strategies to disseminate Youth in Out-of-Home Care Project resources. Assist Legal Assistant in other duties, including some administrative tasks outside the Youth in Out-of-Home Care Project, as they arise.
* Provide support to Business Resource Groups
* Help in the creation, development and distribution to LGBTQ+ promotional materials that promote MMC programs and services.
* Research and provide patients and employees with LGBTQ+ specific related information and resources.
* Work with LGBTQ+ community leaders to plan and/or support programs and events
* Create a pathway for LGBTQ+ inclusive recruitment and retention
* Support the Proud Transgender Transition Family Support Group at MMC
* Assist with the completion of the Health Equality Index (HEI) survey 2019
* Research and consult with healthcare leaders to include LGBTQ+ healthcare service in primary care services

SECTION III: JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Applicants must be students attending an accredited university/college majoring, minoring, certification and /or with special interest in the following areas: gender and sexuality studies, female and gender studies, health administration, public health/policy studies, race and ethnicity studies, social justice, sociology,
QUALIFICATION Enrollment in a 4 year college/university program required, preferably in New Jersey
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/SKILLS
Skills: MS Office, and ability to conduct and facilitate research. Applicants must have minimum of one year work experience. Healthcare experience a plus
