KMHS is Kitsap’s nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults. Clinical Supervisor - Residential Services

As a Residential Services Clinical Supervisor, you will serve as a leader with the Residential Services Team, providing supervision of staff clinical activities, leadership in efforts to develop greater clinical competency and effectiveness in program practices, and to work closely with the program Director to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the services and operations of KMHS in support of our stated mission.

WHAT YOU’LL DO


  • Provide clinical direction, leadership and supervision for Residential Services program and staff.  Monitor and make program revisions as necessary to improve the continuity of care, quality of services and client satisfaction with treatment.  Recruit, hire and develop qualified staff, including providing ongoing coaching, complete performance appraisals on time and in compliance with agency requirements.  Develop and manage program schedules.  Ensure adequate staffing to provide for clinical needs and safety.

  • Participate in program development and management tasks in conjunction with other management team members to develop programs, including assessing and communicating program needs, formulating ongoing program goals, and participating in all quality improvement activities.  Assist in developing and implementing program policies and procedures and participate in problem solving related to program and fiscal issues. 

  • Recruit, hire and develop qualified staff, including providing ongoing coaching, complete performance appraisals on time and in compliance with agency requirements. 

  • Orient new staff (both on-call and regular status), volunteers and interns.

  • Provide a systematic method of ensuring the program have adequate coverage and competent staffing for each shift.  Supervisors will cover shifts when replacement staff are not available.

  • Provide weekly individual and/or group clinical supervision of staff. Create and maintain a cooperative and effectively functioning team of supervisees.

  • Monitor admissions, treatment plans and discharge plans.  Ensure integration and continuity of services for each Residential Services consumer.

  • Assist in the decision-making process for accepting and discharging residents.  May conduct Crisis Respite discharges and admits.

  • Monitor consumer treatment by instructing and overseeing assigned clinicians.

  • Attend and participate in pre-clinical and clinical meetings twice per week.  Reinforce clinical aspects of individual residents in treatment plans with staff.

  • Encourage and oversee Residential Services staff.  Conduct interdisciplinary case consultations with relevant outpatient clinicians, including meetings with agency prescribers.  Ensure follow-through on all resulting decisions.

  • In conjunction with the Residential Services Treatment Coordinator, conduct interdisciplinary case consultations with clinicians, including meetings with agency psychiatrists and Residential Services Nurse.  Ensure follow-through on all resulting decisions.

  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment. Implement the KMHS critical incident reporting procedure and ensure that timely debriefings are conducted with involved staff as appropriate.  Ensure Quality Assurance by reviewing Incident Reports and resident charts.

  • Oversee daily charting to assure that notes are written in behavioral terms that relate back to treatment plans and perform regular chart reviews to assure complete, accurate and timely completion of staff paperwork to satisfy agency, WAC and funding source requirements.

  • Assist clinicians in dealing with crises, family and community issues related to consumer treatment.  Participate in milieu activities.

  • Participate in program development and management tasks in conjunction with the Residential Services Program Manager.  Work with other management team members to develop programs, including assessing and communicating program needs, formulating ongoing program goals, and participating in Quality Program Review (QPR) activities.  Assist in developing and implementing program policies and procedures and participate in problem solving related to program clinical and fiscal issues.

  • Assist in implementing program goals and maintain a meaningful management information system.

  • Help to develop user-friendly services for program interactions with internal and external customers.

  • Provide a systematic method of ensuring the program has adequate and competent staffing for each shift.  Supervisors will cover shifts when replacement staff are not available.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable RCWs, WACs and other regulatory and contractual requirements. Develop and maintain a comprehensive procedure manual that accurately reflects program operations.

  • Maintain effective, ongoing communications with KMHS programs and outside entities. Develop, implement, and communicate program goals and changes. Ensure Residential Services systems are integrated with agency wide systems

  • Work closely with consumer’s families, advocacy groups, Ombuds services, and other community providers to ensure an open and receptive communication process regarding their concerns.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING


  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science or a closely-related area of study with two years experience providing direct service to persons with chronic mental illness preferred. 

  • One or more year supervisory experience in community mental health, preferably in a residential program, required. 

  • This position demands excellent independent judgment and significant collaborative and teamwork skills.
