Job Description:

We are looking for a talented Electronic Systems Technical Advisor – Hardware to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Components Business Segment in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Develop and validate electronic control units to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.
Investigates highly difficult or specialized electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results.

Creates, manages, improves and applies electronic hardware development processes and tools.

Obtains input and negotiates with electronic suppliers and software development teams and delivers prototype hardware to application engineering teams.

Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of hardware architecture, electrical design, and mechanical design that impact functionality, unit cost, and schedule.

Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design

Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.

Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams

Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

·        Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience (7+) in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).

·        Familiar with Electronics Manufacturing process’ for printed circuit board assemblies, and box level assembly.

·        Experience following a detailed new product development process (e.g. Cummins VPI), and capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers in this area.

·        Experience following a disciplined current product support change management and release process and capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers in this area.

·        Experience developing low level Unit and development cost quotes.

·        Experience designing, analyzing, simulating and troubleshooting Analog and digital circuits.

·        Capable of participating in and when required guiding the work of a cross-functional global (US, China, India) engineering team.

·       Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
