The Software Engineer position will provide search, discovery, download, and viewing capabilities for the geospatial data and products of The National Map and National Geospatial Program (NGP). The right candidate will provide development of new apps and APIs, ongoing maintenance and enhancements of existing apps and APIs that provide search and access to geospatial data to the public and internal users.

Cherokee Nation Technologies uses the Agile Framework with Scrum, team members will be expected to participate in daily and weekly stand-ups, retrospectives and sprint planning. Must be comfortable with changing deliverables, deadlines, and projects using a variety of different technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:


  • Improve data processing in the AWS Cloud.
  • Improve development and release cycle of map services in the cloud environment.
  • Improve development release cycle management (DevOps - Gitlab CI, automation, etc)
  • Develop and enhance cloud applications staging processes and infrastructure
  • Maintain and enhance existing applications and retire legacy applications
  • Maintain and enhance notification system to keep users informed on changes to services and new products
  • Collaborate on USGS and DOI Map Services, APIs and Apps with external partners.
  • Develop Metrics Dashboard enabling visualization of usage and trends of TNM Products and Service
  • Maintain Staged Data download and products offered through TNM Downloader and TNM Access API.
  • Develop monitoring and reporting of Dynamic Mapping usage metrics
  • User access/log-on capabilities and careful limitation and/or safeguarding of any personal identifiable information (PII) will also be requirements of the system
  • Develop procedures for system maintenance, monitoring and enhancement releases
  • Work with the NGTOC and other contract teams to implement recommended architectures, test, and provide feedback on any issues that arise through the process

No supervisory or management authority.

EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE

Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar degree
  • 5+ years professional experience required
  • 2+ years of experience with at least one of the following: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, PL/pgSQL, SQL, RDBMS Framework
  • Advanced knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud technologies
  • Advanced Window OS and Linus OS knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML/CSS, XML, YAML, JSON
  • Advanced knowledge of building Web Services and APIs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Create and maintain systems that are able to quickly auto scale to meet demand
  • Knowledge of Python, Go, Ruby, Shell scripting, NodeJS
  • Knowledge of Client side Javascript (Angular, JQuery, Dojo Library, etc),
  • Knowledge of Modern Web technologies (React, Redux, GraphQL, JWT, etc)
  • Experience with Apache web server, nginx,
  • Knowledge of Microservices, Docker, containers
  • Experience with Web-based Viewer Technologies (OpenLayers, Leaflet, etc.)
  • Ability to use Source control GIT
  • Knowledge of advanced programming patterns, structures, and best practices
  • Ability to quickly implement and adapt new programming concepts
  • Working knowledge of DevOps best practices
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery/Deployment and automation practices
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience with Enterprise Databases - PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, My SQL Server
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Function well in a fast-paced environment.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
