The Senior Information Developer develops strategies for different documentation outputs (user manuals, online help, specifications, video tutorials), researches important product information, defines the information needs of the target group, ensures that legal and normative requirements are met, writes texts, coordinates translations and checks the quality of documentation.

This role is also responsible for:


  • Support OCLC’s strategic approach in the design and development of materials for OCLC members.

  • Ensure that educational materials are aligned across products on shared platforms and align with business strategies.

  • Write and produce content of documentation which includes multiple formats/types such as help systems and online documentation; prepare draft versions of documentation and distribute to reviewers in order to incorporate reviewers’ feedback as appropriate.

  • Gather and analyze information about products, services, features being documented; learn and use products via prototypes.

  • Plan and manage documentation projects to ensure on-time delivery of documentation within constraints of project schedules.

  • Develop materials to proactively serve our members and to reduce the number and length of customer service calls. Plan and develop information resources in the appropriate format. Aggregate web-based and training materials.

  • Create web-based materials using a controlled vocabulary that support OCLC’s global strategy, meet quality standards, and are member focused.

  • Anticipate the needs of large (10,000 to 20,000+) and of specialized audiences.

  • Develop partnerships with product management; proactively identify opportunities for improvement based on product and member needs.

  • Some travel may be required. 

Qualifications:


  • MLS / MLIS preferred or master’s degree in related field. Knowledge of libraries gained through work experience.

  • Four or more years of technical or instructional writing experience or demonstrated success with websites and writing for the web.

  • Familiarity with basic library operations (cataloging, reference, interlibrary loan) and procedures.

  • Knowledge of OCLC products and general software development cycles.

  • Basic use of HTML, ability to modify CSS, and use single-sourcing techniques. Experience with content management systems (CMS) such as Adobe CQ/AEM, Microsoft Office applications, MindTouch, SnagIt or aptitude with similar software to maintain and publish web-based materials.

  • Must be a positive, curious, self-reliant team player with strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Desire to engage and accept feedback from members and internal departments

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Basic knowledge of accessibility standards and indexing materials for searching.

  • Experience with web analytics and/or web tracking systems
