POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent will provide leadership to instructional areas, ensure the safety and welfare of all participants in and around the pool, and organize and teach a water exercise class for all levels of fitness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Interpret and enforce pool rules and policies to ensure safety of all participants and swimmers.
2. Execute emergency procedures as needed.
3. Promote the YMCA swimming programs.
4. Lock and secure all pool doors when pool is closed.
5. Keep accurate records as required, e.g. incident reports, daily check list.
6. Take responsibility to close pool when necessary for weather or fecal incidents.
7. Ensure all classes are taught with the safety of the participant foremost.
8. Instruct swim classes in accordance with Gateway Region YMCA guidelines so that participants progress through skills.
9. Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance.
10. Communicate with parents or custodial adult on the progress of the child.
11. Teach a safe, effective workout emphasizing muscle strength, endurance and flexibility according to the Gateway Region YMCA Aquatic Program Model.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned.
