Yoh is seeking a SR SCIENTIST I (ORGANIC & ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY) for a growing biotech company focused in oligonucleotide synthesis in the surrounding San Diego area.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Senior Scientist I conducts studies in loading optimization, process development for new products or optimization of the manufacturing process of current products, analytical development and method optimization.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

* Prepares protocols, carries out the studies, and prepares reports for studies commissioned by customers.
* Designs, carries out, and documents studies to streamline and optimize the production process.
* Develops new process based on customers' needs and effectively communicates with them.
* Conducts studies to improve the current process of loading NPHL and NP in order to streamline and/or cut cost of manufacturing.
* Works with customers as well as QC and QA teams to help method transfer and development.
* Conducts studies to provide scientifically sound justifications for potential changes in SOPs, specifications, and methods.
* Strategically evaluates the current operation for improvements, writes the corresponding protocols and executes the experiments.
* When needed, provides business continuity plan and submits to the management.
* When a duplicate equipment/instrument is available, the Senior Scientist will transfer methods to the second equipment and qualify the methods to be used as backup methods in case of equipment failure.
* Participates in GMP production of NP and NPHL loaded solid supports as needed.
* Provides technical support to customers.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate has the following background/experience/qualifications:
* Ph.D. in Chemistry with experience in research and scientific investigations.
* Strong background in organic and analytical chemistry.
* Experience in characterization, and processing methods.
* A proven track record of publications and/or patents.
* Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creativity.
* Focus of multi-disciplinary, mission-driven, and achievement-oriented approaches.
* Strong ability to work effectively with a diverse team of co-workers.
* Highly motivated and able to explore new fields independently to solve a range of problems.
* Knowledge of design of experiments and statistical data analysis.
* The ability to supervise the activities of lower level personnel;
* The potential to be a scientific and strategic leader within the organization.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Office/Lab environment. Lifting to 20 pounds may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
