The Supervisor of Ambulatory Registration, under the general direction of the Director of Ambulatory Operations and the Manager of Ambulatory Registration (in conjunction with a dotted line relationship to the Clinical Department Directors), supervises the daily registration, pre-certification, cash collection and insurance verification functions of their assigned Ambulatory Operations Departments.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor of Ambulatory Registration at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Supervises the day-to-day activities of pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, financial responsibility notification, and insurance verification policies and procedures across their assigned ambulatory points of service.
- Maintains working knowledge of the individual department workflows.
- Coordinates registration coverage and staffing levels for all assigned areas in conjunction with the Manager of Registration.
- Monitors and audits the capture of correct registration and demographic information to maximize upfront cash collections and billing accuracy, and makes recommendations for process changes when shortfalls are identified.
- Supervises denial management and outpatient exception reports processes, and advises Manager of variances in expected results.
- Supervises all line personnel responsible for ambulatory registration and related functions and manages the daily staffing levels of these personnel.
- Supervises and assists management to develop monitoring and control mechanisms to evaluate employee performance relating to efficiency, accuracy and professional courtesy while communicating with patients, physicians and managed care organizations.
- Participates on the automated scheduling system implementation team as requested by the Director of Ambulatory Operations.
- Prepares statistical reports relating to scheduling, patient throughput, and customer service, i.e., number of visits per department per day.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
- This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational & Managerial Competencies.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree Required
- Must have 3-5 years prior experience in hospital patient financial services operations.
- Advanced knowledge of the health insurance industry, managed care issues, revenue cycle, and hospital IT systems Required.
- Advanced knowledge of various patient account platforms, including those offered by Siemens Health Services Required
- Graduate degree or professional certification preferred
