Position Overview

This person will support the Transportation operations in our New Britain Office. The selected candidate will be required to work in a team environment with other co-workers and managers. All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to partner with associates and management of Tilcon Connecticut Inc. to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety processes and DOT regulations. The Transportation Assistant will report directly to the Driving Foreperson and will comply with mandatory safety and DOT requirements and other functions of the team.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Function):

  • Research and resolve hired vendor's payout incidents
  • Create and maintain driver files and all safety related documents
  • Generate and maintain Union hired Hauler reports
  • Generating reports identifying claims of vehicle/property damage through Trackit program
  • Assist in resolving trucker pay, contract and insurance issues
  • Assist with Daily Time report reviews
  • Log in material usage
  • Extracting, filtering and maintaining reporting from multiple systems
  • Review trucking invoices and reports
  • Understanding union contracts and continuing to build a positive partnership
  • Reviewing and record keeping of various hazard assessment forms

This skilled position involves the safe and efficient training of all new hires in the operation of tri-axle, lowbed, tack and snorkel trucks and managing the day to day issues with drivers. All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to partner with associates and management of Tilcon Connecticut Inc. to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety process. The Transportation Assistant will comply with mandatory safety requirements and other functions of the team.


Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.

  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • DOT knowledge of requirements and process (particularly for permits), along with administrative assistance experience preferred (2 years' experience preferred)

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to multi-task and triage as needed without getting overwhelmed.

  • Ability to act in a professional manner with customers, and represent Tilcon in a character that inspires trust.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the communication system and use the truck tracking system correctly.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word and Power Point.
