The Sr. Systems Engineer will act in a supporting role to enhance the definition, design and development of Tandem’s products while working closely with the Principal Systems Engineer. This position entails supporting system engineering activities and working cross-functionally within new product development projects to ensure system level requirements are defined and met.

Serves as a key member of a cross-functional project team consisting of electrical, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality engineers to achieve project deliverables.
Participates in system definition tasks such as soliciting user needs, documenting system requirements, and use-case descriptions.
Identifies and documents system interdependencies to mitigate hazards, failure modes, and other risks.
Serves as a technical consulting resource for integration, subsystem and system verification activities creating plans, protocols and reports as necessary.
Contributes to planning, design, development, modification and evaluation of systems.
Works with cross functional teams like Engineering, Product Management and IT teams to define high level system requirements for current and next generation use cases and products.
Translates top level requirements to system specifications including component functions, data flows, security, and system scalability to meet demand, cost, and performance targets.
Works with privacy and regulatory teams to define SMART requirements for engineering teams to meet various quality and PII/PHI, customer data related regulations like HIPAA and GDPR.
Maintains system level architectural diagrams and requirements on an ongoing basis.
Supports other departments as needed and considers project-wide impacts in decision making.
Ensures compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA/GDPR and other legal and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Has working knowledge of Federal and other regulations, e.g. QSRs, ISO 14971 IEC 60601 series.
Knowledge of Agile SW development practices and processes.
Ability to work independently and deliver a high-quality work product without close supervision.
Ability to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information.
Ability to effectively convey information related to work product and lead group discussions.
Demonstrated capability in Systems Engineering practices such as requirements management, design trade-off and cost-benefit analysis, hazards and risk assessments.
Experience and capability working collaboratively under a Quality Management System (QMS), as part of a cross-functional team.
Ability to dive into the details and analyze different cross functional inputs to come up with suitable solutions.
Minimum certifications/educational level:
A Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering is required, a Master of Science degree is desired.
Advanced coursework, Master’s degree, or professional licensing in related field desirable.
5 plus years’ experience working as a Systems Engineer or with systems engineering responsibilities in a multidisciplinary project team environment.
Experience with software-based applications and code management tools (C++, JAVA, Bamboo, Bitbucket, JIRA).
Experience with device communication short range protocols (i.e. RF, BLE).
Experience with cloud/mobile application development and deployment (Android, iOS).
Experience with Medical Device regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls).
A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization.
Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways, demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instruction on new assignments.
