Job Description:


The Humane Society of The United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization is seeking a Senior Accountant – Revenue for the Accounting – Operations department. This position is responsible for heavily supporting the Revenue area to ensure that reconciliations and revenue process flows are in accordance with domestic and international Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  This position has a large emphasis on credit card reconciliations as well as recording transactions for Humane Society International (HSI) UK bequests and assisting with their revenue billings and cash receipt processes.



This position will be responsible for:



 





  • Reconciling and analyzing high level multi systems credit card transactions between third party processors, HSUS and affiliates banking accounts, CRM systems and accounting systems.  Recording WorldPay/Vantiv credit card transactions for HSUS and affiliates, HSLF, and Canada. Recording assigned online merchant accounts from various processing systems of HSUS and affiliates websites including PayPal, Chase Convio and IATS. Reconciling and recording UK transactions;


  • Assisting with reviewing United Kingdom bequest Wills/Agreements including booking accrual journal entries and maintaining supporting documents to ensure appropriate reporting and recording of transactions for UK GAAP audit purposes. Reconciling Canadian receipted donations between the online, CRM and Accounting systems and coordinating with Canadian staff to ensure receipted donations have been provided per the revenue recorded; 


  • Preparing, analyzing, and maintaining assigned accounts receivable and unearned income accounts to be used in the monthly financial statement and annual audit process;


  • Managing Humane Society International multiyear contracts/agreements set up through the Order entry module. Managing the 2CP payment processing system. Reconciling, analyzing and maintaining the A/R invoicing sub-ledger to the General Ledger including ensuring timely collection of outstanding invoice balances and timely write off bad debts. Providing monthly aging and payment reports to the Advertising sales staff.


  • Providing back up for the Cash Receipt Coordinator; including but not limited to responsibility for clearing all bank reconciliation cash receipt items on the HSUS, HSLF, UK and Canadian bank accounts;


  • Assisting with completing audit requests for cash receipts/revenue audit samples documentation, to ensure that the audit trail is complete and where issues are found, working to resolve those issues.


 



Qualifications:





  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent work experience required;


  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an accounting department required;


  • Strong working knowledge of CRM systems such as ROI, Engaging Networks, and Blackbaud Luminate;


  • Strong working knowledge of financial reconciliations and analysis.


  • Knowledge of Sage-Intacct software is desirable;


  • Must be detailed orientated and familiar with Revenue Recognition principals;


  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;


  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;


  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and be flexible regarding workload and assignments.


  • Ability to exercise sound judgment;


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;


  • Excellent math skills;


  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;


  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);


  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;


  • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
