Altarum Institute is seeking a dynamic and flexible technical writer to join the Center for Appropriate Care in Ann Arbor, MI or Washington, DC.
As a technical writer, you will be part of project teams and business development efforts working to implement innovative public health and healthcare interventions. You will have the opportunity to use your writing skills to contribute to project reports, responses to requests for proposals, and other written materials such as blog posts, white papers, case studies, and manuscripts.
As a full-time member of a dynamic consulting group, your specific projects, tasks, and responsibilities will evolve and change over time. During your career at Altarum you will support multiple projects and proposals. Altarum's Center for Appropriate Care works directly with healthcare clinicians and healthcare stakeholders to promote best practices for clinical care, practice operations and the application of information technology to health and health care. We support clinician's participation in data driven quality and process improvement interventions, participation in quality reporting programs, and develop and provide continuing education offerings for clinicians. The ability to quickly gain an understanding of our various project and business development activities and support teams by writing clear and concise materials will be critical for creation of high quality project deliverable, promotion of Altarum's qualifications and thought leadership activities, and development of successful proposals for new funding.
Provide support throughout different phases of projects examining various aspects of health in the form of:
includes content development based on guidance from subject matter experts in addition to copy-edited for grammar and coherence
Report and presentation creation
includes interfacing with a project team to create written content and exhibits for reports, presentations and other project deliverable
Telling Altarum's Project Success Stories
including writing materials that demonstrate Altarum's qualifications and project successes for public audiences. This could take the form of issue briefs, white papers, case studies, or manuscripts for publication.
Editing material drafted by other team members for clarity and understanding.
Understanding of and adherence to Altarum style guides

Candidates will be asked to provide writing samples.
A Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in English, technical writing or journalism with knowledge and interest of public health or healthcare or a degree in a public health, healthcare or social science discipline, e.g. public health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and strong writing skills
The ability to support a technical team
The ability to quickly acquire and synthesize knowledge of new projects
Familiarity with the proposal and grant writing process strongly desired
Familiarity with preparing written components of technical reports for a wide range of audiences
Familiarity with preparing 508 compliant documents a plus, though training will be available
Strong Microsoft Office and PowerPoint skills required
