Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Marketing Research and Insights lead will be a thought leader, deliver expert support and enable SGBG marketing and businesses to use and leverage data for informed, insights-based decisions that drive growth.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Responsible for SGBG Research and Insights, overseeing research and insights strategy, coordinating execution through Area Insights teams

  • Guides business teams to the appropriate research objectives for a consumer/customer learning plan to address the most important business questions

  • Proactively identifies needs for the Research and Insights group and communicate to SGBG Marketing Operations Leader

  • Leads and executes all phases of research projects from design through delivery of recommendations, including developing and managing the budget and managing the execution of research by outside vendors

  • Identifies and understands business group/Division needs and proactively defines requirements/questions to be answered by data/insights

  • Conducts detailed analyses to interpret data and synthesizes multiple data points to understand the target audience(s)

  • Aligns and collaborates with Corporate Marketing research and insights teams

  • Manages demand and supply in relation to research and insights initiatives to ensure the most relevant activities are being prioritized and are aligned to division/SGBG needs

  • Actively monitors market trends/innovations and integrates into team strategy to maintain relevance and stay competitive

  • Consistently monitors team needs and advocates for training to foster an environment of continuous development 

Basic Qualifications:                                               


  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution


  • Minimum of five (5) combined years of experience in Marketing, Marketing Consulting and/or Insights and analytics in a private, public, government or military environment


  • Strategy development experience


Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA

  • Strong facilitation skills

  • International management and collaboration experience

  • Executional skills and background

  • Ability to pull together a story and make it actionable

  • Strong project management and organization skills

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Comfort with ambiguity

Location: Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 15% travel

Relocation: Is not authorized
