First Solar’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) team is looking for candidates who believe in our mission of providing cost-advantaged solar technology through innovation, customer engagement, industry leadership and operational excellence. Our team strives to design and safely build photovoltaic (PV) power and storage systems that we, and the communities they are located in, can be proud of for decades to come.

The EPC team is looking for individuals that want to be at the forefront of leading change in PV systems including our industry leading accomplishment of continuously reducing the cost of solar power through innovation in both systems design and safe execution. Ideal candidates will constantly challenge and change their own assumptions and ideas and, through collaboration, allow us to continually improve on our reliable designs and safe execution.  In return, our team will provide a supportive, fast-paced work environment where our associates are encouraged to take ambiguous and uncertain problems and then generate and integrate new ideas to help design and build the PV systems to help us lead the world’s sustainable energy future.


  • Minimum of 5 years project engineering experience in the design/build, EPC or utility electricity generation field.  Or 2+ years of direct PV solar experience and advanced college education in solar energy.

  • Prior experience in the solar industry desirable.

  • Project experience to include design and planning, estimating, permitting contracts, codes and regulations, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, turnover, and documentation.

  • Professional Engineer Registration preferred, but not required.


  • Must have a BS degree in an engineering discipline, (i.e. BSEE, BSME, BSCE)

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Must possess technical knowledge of related engineering systems and applications, engineering calculations, construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computer programs. 

  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and proficiency in spreadsheet and project scheduling tools. 

  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Strong computing skills.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assess deliverable need, prepare budget and schedule, communicate resource requirements to management.

  • Lead and supervise the assembled project team in execution of deliverable.

  • Projects may include feasibility studies, business development support, site assessments, conceptual design packages, or detailed designs for permitting and construction.

  • Supervise the development, review, check and approval of design engineering deliverables

  • Ensure industry design codes and standards are evaluated and applied

  • Gather and review applicable codes, standards, and vendor and client requirements and communicate requirements to project team

  • Participate in constructability reviews

  • Forecast and develop staffing 

  • Analyze options to optimize cost and scheduling

  • Ensure all work is performed within safety standards

  • Acts as liaison with Project Management, senior management on matters relating to engineering progress, quality, scope and technical/permitting issues as well as interface with customer on technical issues.

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position will report to the Sr. Manager of Engineering and will not have direct reports.


  • May be required to travel 20-40% each year.

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift

  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis

  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis

  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required

  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures

  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
