Schedule: 40 hrs/wk, Monday - Friday (scheduled between 7:30am-5:30pm)

Function within the scope of the practical nursing license to assist physician, advanced practice provider and/or RN with patient care. Perform technical assessment, administer medications, and assist with minor procedures/treatment. Additionally, may be assigned to manage clinic programs. Travel is required to support clinical outreach locations.
Perform physical assessment, which may include vital signs, weight, height, and current history and makes observations relevant to patient conditions. Documents or reviews all pertinent data, including allergies, current medications, and health history.
Perform various screening tests in preparation for patientâ€™s physical examination.
Administer medications, give injections, monitor intravenous fluids and perform treatments which are within the practical nurse scope of practice. Observe and document patient reactions to medications and treatments, and initiate emergency treatment as indicated.
Assess oxygen saturation and blood glucose levels.
Assist in examinations of patients, diagnostic procedures, and minor procedures/treatments.
Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, medication, and treatment under direct or indirect supervision of the physician, or as directed by clinic protocol.
Initiate basic cardiac life support and assist in emergency situations as needed.
Assure timely reporting of lab work to physician/advanced practice provider and appropriate transfer of medical records as directed by physician/advanced practice provider or as requested by patients.
Maintain appropriate inventory of medical equipment and patient education materials in patient examination areas.
Maintain responsibility for screening and directing communication between clinic staff, consulting staff, continuing care providers, students, university faculty and staff, and the public.
Responsible for evaluating and documenting function of emergency equipment and for maintaining stock medication supplies.
May exercise functional supervision over students.
Participate in huddles to address issues and plan upcoming clinics.
Demonstrate accountability for patient satisfaction.
Participate in discharge planning process to ensure continuity of care and appropriate identification of primary cardiologist.
Perform non-patient care tasks associated with clinical operations including (but not limited to): faxing/scanning, answering phones, scheduling follow-up appointments and/or obtaining insurance prior authorizations.
Travel to outreach clinics as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Iowa Board of Nursing or eligible for temporary work permit. Responsible to take the required continuing education hours to maintain a valid LPN certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Must possess a valid driverâ€™s license and meet Universityâ€™s Fleet Safety Program.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills desired.
Previous experience providing direct patient care in, or demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular services desired.
