About the Program
The Guardian Early Career College Hire Program in Group and Worksite Markets is an exciting opportunity to work on challenging projects in a sought-after work environment and culture. This program provides participants with:

Group Insurance Underwriting Track
The Group Insurance Underwriting Track supports the needs of small to mid-size companies nationwide and offers these businesses a superior customer experience on a broad base of group insurance solutions. Our full portfolio of products and services enables companies to customize benefit plans to meet their employee's needs. Responsibilities
As an Underwriter you will:


  • Assess information available and make effective risk decisions in accordance with established company guidelines and procedures, eventually leading to new business sales and continuance of existing business.

  • Act as a consultant to internal partners and customers, providing benefit recommendations to potentially improve program financial performance and the customer's retention and satisfaction results.

  • Be responsible for relationship management and a positive customer experience.

  • Perform financial analysis to determine risk classification according to company guidelines.

  • Communicate with the salesforce, brokers, and internal partners to acquire necessary information, solve problems, and convey decisions.

  • Evaluate medical, financial, and non-medical information to determine risk classification according to company guidelines.

  • Review Health Questionnaires, medical records; coordinates completion of medical testing and history to appropriately review requests; renders decisions on issuance or declination.

Skills/Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business or Mathematics is preferred with a minimum GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 grade scale

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate large quantities of data, ask probing questions and derive conclusions coupled with the ability to make accurate decisions in a limited timeframe

  • Strong math skills to analyze financial data

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems creatively

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrated leadership skills through college projects or internships

  • Experience in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. Understanding of Tableau, R, and/or Visual Basic programming capabilities a plus.

  • Program Development - experience with development of system applications using Agile (preferred) or waterfall approaches.

  • Prior knowledge of Group Insurance products/processes is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of biology/bio-chemistry and analytical research and analysis.
