Provides leadership and governance to create an enabling global regulatory environment and regulatory harmonization through leadership at global trade associations and engagement with global regulatory bodies. Champions regulatory alignment at global and regional levels by developing and driving regulatory strategies and advocacy plans. Collaborates with internal and industry stakeholders to identify, recommend, and develop regulatory policies to protect TCCC interests.
Function Specific Activities:
Provide leadership in identifying risks and opportunities in the regulatory, public health policy, and industry arena and ensure tracking of global issues and emerging trends that impact the reputation of our brands, trade, and future innovation opportunities.
Leads and executes regulatory strategies to address issues and trends expected to affect our products, ingredients, nutrition and labeling regulations.
Establish regulatory strategies towards regulatory harmonization and/or simplification through international standards and fora (e.g., CODEX) so as to ensure unobstructed innovation for products, ingredients, labeling, or packaging. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as the SRA team, R&D, Legal and trade associations to design and execute those strategies.
Represent the Company at appropriate global industry organizations and international food standards bodies and provide leadership to external stakeholders such as global food and beverage industry groups to influence outcomes and support our regulatory strategies.
Establish sustainable networks and relationships in the global regulatory, public health policy and industry arena.
Assess, identify, recommend and develop external and internal global food/nutrition/safety strategies, mitigate risks and/or take advantage of opportunities.
Lead the Regulatory team focused on advocacy and regulatory alignment with the Global Scientific and Regulatory Affairs department.
Masters’ Degree required in in food science, toxicology, or nutrition required
Related Work Experience:
15-20 years of work experience in global regulatory affairs or relevant related field.
Food or beverage industry or related industry experience managing scientific and regulatory affairs
Experience in advocating consumer product company positions with global regulatory and standard setting bodies
Experience in representing business interests at food/beverage/consumer product trade associations
Team management experience
Advanced Regulatory Affairs: Ability to interact with government officials to represent the Company or beverage industry while explaining complex scientific data, reports or issues. This includes the ability to anticipate issues or concerns of interest to public health officials in order to respond to those concerns and the ability to advocate a position in a non-adversarial manner (e.g., during dispute resolution).
Advanced Regulatory Knowledge: Expert knowledge of the regulatory and political landscape (e.g., regulations, issues) affecting food and beverages globally. This includes the ability to manage complex regulatory issues affecting products, ingredients, packages, or labeling.
Building Value Based Relationships: Ability to generate alliances internally and externally by continuously identifying and acting on those things that will create success for the Company and its customers, bottlers, suppliers, communities and governments.
Advocacy position development: Ensuring that our business is not unduly restricted by onerous policies or regulations and enabling business growth. This requires an understanding of the key issues and the relevant, credible science; the ability to assess risk; skills in strategic thinking and planning; the ability to build and articulate complex scientific arguments in a clear and compelling way; and the ability to partner with, collaborate with, and/or influence key internal and external stakeholders.
Ingredient/Contaminant Regulatory Landscape and Advocacy: Understanding of the acceptable human exposure to potentially harmful substances in food. This includes knowledge of the nature, properties, adverse effects, and detection of materials such as food additives, ingredients, contaminants, packaging materials, and pesticide residues, and how they are tested and regulated
Nutrition advocacy position development: Understanding of basic nutrition science including complexities and controversies related to our portfolio and how foods and nutrients impact maintenance of health and/or obesity and other non-communicable diseases. Ability to build and articulate complex scientific arguments in a clear and compelling way; and the ability to partner with, collaborate with, and/or influence key internal and external stakeholders.
National and Super National authorities: Understanding how national and supranational authorities (e.g., US IOM, EU, WHO, JECFA, Codex Alimentarius) influence the regulatory environment
