Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Manager or Supervisor, the Obstetrical Technician (OB) is responsible for clerical, technical and patient care
functions. The OB Technician will help deliver family centered obstetrical, gynecological and newborn nursing
care to a patient population which presents with varied physical, cognitive coping abilities, literacy levels, ethnic background and health beliefs. The OB Technician must use sound judgment and diplomacy as the first interface
of services related to patient care and unit personnel. The individual in this position will interface daily with
patients, physicians, nursing staff and technologists to insure quality services and continuum of care. The
individual must demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain a
positive attitude and remain productive under stress. For some departments OB Technician may be responsible
for operating the nurse call system, using phone system (placing telephone calls and paging). May be responsible
for operating office equipment (copiers, fax, computer and paging).

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Must possess effective communication and critical thinking skills. Prefer some college and/or knowledge of medical terminology and the computer. Prefer CNA or patient care experience. Other courses or on-the-job training programs that provide patient care knowledge and skills will be considered individually. Medical/clerical background. Prefer one (1) year experience in patient care. Computer literate. Good customer service skills and teamwork attitude. Must be CPR certified.
