Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer / Process Safety Leader at our Cuba, MO facility. This position reports to the Plant Manager. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit while providing leadership and strategic direction for Process Safety Management (PSM) across covered areas and balance of the facility. As a key leader within our mill operations team, the Process Safety Leader has a specific focus on ensuring processes are designed, operated, and maintained for safety.  The Process Engineer/Process Safety Leader serves as a mentor for plant leadership and all employees to develop knowledge and appreciation for the value created by a process safety approach to managing operations.

A Day in The Life Typically Includes:
Process Safety:

  • Providing leadership and direction to achieve the process safety vision through management commitment and employee ownership.

  • Review and validation of operating procedures, the design and specification of process equipment and pressure safety devices, and engineering capability responsibility, management of change (MOC), and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR)

  • Providing process engineering solutions to resolve identified process safety risks at the facility while using the MOC process

  • Leading plant process incident investigations and developing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 

  • Providing oversight and guidance for the plant’s Process Safety program and maintaining process safety information including: P&ID's, PFD's and SOP’s in adherence with the GP PS Standard. 

  • Developing process safety strategy according to the Facility S&H plan. 

  • Providing routine communication to plant management regarding process safety plans and issues impacting the plant.

  • Leading and / or facilitating risk assessments at the facility for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards.

  • Working with natural gas, burner systems and combustible dust protocols

  • Ensuring the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet the needs of the facility.

  • Monitor and maintain action plans to improve process safety compliance and performance.

  • Developing plans to grow process safety skills and knowledge across the facility.

Process Engineering:

  • Responsible for OEE improvement in the plant

  • Leading problem-solving teams in a plant manufacturing environment.

  • Working collaboratively and effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Possessing strong communication skills.

  • Responsible of direct reports development

  • Working independently and managing multiple priorities to achieve goals.

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree in chemical, mechanical, industrial/manufacturing engineering, or other engineering or technical field

  • One (1) or more years manufacturing / process safety experience

  • Experience with and knowledge of Process Safety regulations

  • Experience with CAD programs (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience within a chemical, industrial/manufacturing in operations, technical, or mechanical integrity role

  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in a process safety role or equivalent engineering experience within a PSM regulated operation

  • Experience with and knowledge of Process Safety regulations

  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Knowledge of how manufacturing processes work and basic equipment operation within the processes
