The Security Officer PRN will:
* Security officers are to lock and unlock specified doors located throughout the facility.
* Security officers are to make regular patrols throughout the hospital to ensure the safety of staff, and guest. (A minimum of two patrols should be made during an 8 hour shift, calls permitting.) This will include the hospital parking areas.
* Security officers will assist staff/visitors/patients who require motorist assistance. This will consist of making sure that the person is taken to a phone and will have a safe place in which to wait for additional help to arrive.
* Security officers should be on lookout for any criminal activity on hospital property and take appropriate action if any activity found.
* Security officers are to respond to calls received either by radio or phone in a timely manner. If the occasion of multiple calls coming in close to the same time occurs, the officer will prioritize the calls and answer them in the order of importance.
* Security officers will maintain vigilance for potential hazardous situations and report any of found to the appropriate hospital personnel.
* Security officers will, if needed, provide escorts for persons to their vehicles.
* Security officers will from time to time need to release valet keys from the valet booth after normal valet operating hours.
* Security officers will release bodies from the morgue to the proper funeral home or removal service.
* Security officers will respond to various alarms and take appropriate action.
* Security officers are expected to be courteous and helpful to visitors, patients and staff.
* Security officers must be able to complete and pass a n 8-hour non-violent crisis intervention course initially upon hire and complete a four-hour refresher course annually.
* Security officers will accurately log lost and found items and attempt to locate possible owners of property.
* Security officers will investigate and document all incidents reported to Security by members of the hospital community. Draw conclusions from the investigation, gather information concerning incidents and complete an occurrence report.
* Security officers must complete the Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officers program (IAHSS) within the first year of hire.
* Security officers must respond to Codes where immediate security intervention is needed and demonstrate proper aggressive management techniques during stressful situations.
* Security officers must participate in emergency preparedness and response training and drills/event and document in logbook.
ARMED security officers (Hopewell Police Officers) must satisfy all hospital training including annual safety day, code of conduct, general orientation, IAHSS requirements, and any other training required by security department of hospital.
ARMED security officers (Hopewell Police Officers) must satisfy the state and local municipality training requirements, including fire arms training. A copy of the documentation will be provided to hospital safety office for inclusion in security officers training records.
ARMED security officers (Hopewell Police Officers) must wear police uniform and weapon during assigned shifts in hospital. Weapons must be removed prior to responding to behavioral units.
ARMED security officers (Hopewell Police Officers) will park their marked police vehicles in close proximity to hospital emergency department. Visibility of their parked police vehicles could be a deterrent to crime.
Required Previous work experience demonstrates knowledge of basic security principals. Ability to work with the public under stressful situations.
Preferred Security Officer training certification (Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services or International Association for Hospital Safety & Security).
