F5 Networks Security Business owns some of the fastest growing of the company’s products.  As a key driver of F5’s future growth, the security business is a key area of strategic interest for F5. You will join the new leadership of the security business unit in driving that growth and expanding our footprint in the security market.

The Business Operations Director contributes to the success of the Security business unit at F5 Networks by facilitating communication between the General Manager and his / her direct reports and peers, by financial and program management, and by promoting accountability. This is an active, behind-the-scenes role, highly strategic and facilitative, that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, As the GM’s ‘trusted counsel’, the role requires a highly inventive individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and excellent analytical skills.

This role comprises cross-functional engagement with key leaders and managers across F5. It is an opportunity to influence direction for organizational change, to be a key decision maker within the Security business unit, and to ensure execution on decisions made. 

What you will do:

Facilitate Accountability and Execution

  • Work closely with the General Manager in the development, communication and execution of strategic and tactical accountabilities; partners with Sr Leadership team, FP&A, HR and the GM’s direct reports to align accountabilities across teams

  • Ensure Business Unit leadership is focused on the highest priority items.

  • Evolve the rhythm of the business governance, with input from key partners, to ensure the right cadence and balance of strategic and operational emphasis. This will include annual and quarterly review and planning

Facilitate Communications

  • Act as a 2-way voice for and from the GM in initiatives, projects, meetings and as needed

  • Take the lead in coordinating timely and appropriate content is prepared for all key GM communications and presentations to internal/external audiences; ensure content is consistent across all forms of media

  • Provide pre-meeting preparation to the GM. Attend all Sr Leadership meetings to capture outcomes and assign follow on actions, track status and facilitate accountability

  • Facilitate connections and be a catalyst between EVP, Sr Leadership and other employees

Planning and Strategy

  • Keep a pulse on the business, be systemic and connect dots with others across the company to heighten efficiency and enablement

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the GM’s budget for headcount and discretionary spend, both in terms of the solid-line organization reporting into the GM as well as the broader P&L controlled by the GM including Engineering budget, headcount and resources.  Advise the GM and on tactical and strategic budget matters.

  • Gather, organize, interpret, and report data used by other leaders to make sound business decisions; prepare related recommendations as required

  • Lead, drive and own projects, individually and through teams, for the GM as required which are often confidential and time-sensitive in nature; frequently providing guidance and working with project teams

  • Experience leading, owning and driving complex projects with multiple work streams spanning different businesses and disciplines

  • Real passion for and consistent track record for execution with measurable results in dynamic, energizing environment


  • Minimum 12 years’ experience within F5 or other enterprise software company with strong cross-functional experience, deep business and technical acumen

  • BA or BS or equivalent experience required, MBA or Project Management Certification is preferred
