Job Description:

FUNCTION:  Responsible for establishing and implementing a pesticide program for the University’s landscape and grounds or academic and housing buildings that is in compliance with current federal and state laws.  Performs tasks requiring good organizational skills.


 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:




  1. Develops a written program for control of major pests associated with ornamental plants, turfs, or all campus buildings.      


  2. Implements and maintains a pesticide program by applying pesticide and supervising the work of others in this area.


  3. Provides a list of materials and estimated quantities of each material necessary to control normal outbreaks of pests common to this area.


  4. Determines the necessary amount and properly mixes the chemicals to be utilized for each application.


  5. Ensures security and inventory of pesticide materials and equipment.


  6. Maintains records of pesticide applications performed.

  7. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education: No Formal Education AND:


  • 12-36 months pest control experience


Skills:




  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English.


  • Basic math skills.


  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions.


  • Performs simple record-keeping operations.

  • Uses tools or equipment with proficiency.


Certifications:




  • Valid driver's license


  • Certified according to the Oklahoma Pesticide Applicators’ Law in the categories of “Ornamental and Turf” and/or “General Pest”




Advertised Physical Requirements:




  • Exposure to physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting up to 100 pounds and exposure to extreme temperature changes.


  • May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.

  • May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.


Departmental Preferences:


  • None


Supervision: Has no regularly assigned supervisory responsibility.  May temporarily supervise personnel in applying pesticide.
