Scope of Position
:


The Digital Pathology Scan Center and HUB provide continuity of care for patients of OSUWMC as it relates to surgical pathology cases that are performed at OSUWMC, as well as cases that originate at outside institutions and are now being referred for secondary review at OSUWMC. These services support clinical care, clinical trials, and research activities of OSUWMC physicians as relates to surgical pathology specimens and Digital Pathology Services.





Position Summary:


The Scan Center Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Clinical Scan Lab as well as the HUB while performing slide scanning (if applicable) and case assignment/distribution duties as needed under the direction of the laboratory manager. The Supervisor demonstrates specialized technical expertise necessary to these areas and adjusts staffing schedules and assigns tasks of subordinates to accommodate work load fluctuations and personnel shortages, etc. The Supervisor is directly responsible for the technical quality of all work and for remedial training/communication of staff who perform tasks in these areas. Administrative duties include technical policy and procedure writing and implementation, training of new staff and/or students, documentation of employee competencies, record keeping, Quality Control and Quality Assurance monitoring activities and monthly review thereof, equipment maintenance/documentation review, temperature log review, and maintaining JCAHO, CAP and other regulatory standards. The Supervisor will perform validations of equipment for the implementation of a tele-pathology system, including imaging of microscopic slides, quality assurance of images, data review of errors, as well as equipment knowledge and troubleshooting for end to end digital pathology workflows. The Scan Center Supervisor, does interact with pathologists and collaborates with other pathology services i.e. Histology, Surgical Pathology and Pathology Support Services on a daily basis regarding review of cases for utilization and reconcile processes related to the Digital Pathology Scan Center locations. This position must have deep understanding of workflow and capable of understanding the dynamics and benefits of digital pathology and its applicability to case consultation, primary and secondary diagnosis, teaching sets and tumor boards. The Scan Center Supervisor reports to the Manager of Digital Pathology.






Minimum Qualifications:



For Hire: Associates degree in medical laboratory technology or biological science with MLT certification or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent working knowledge of the principles, operations, and maintenance of lab equipment is required. Strong leadership skills, prior experience in completion of written employee evaluations preferred. Ability to solve both internal and external customer service issues, knowledge of medical terminology, histology, anatomy and pathology is preferred.




On-going: Meets minimum continuing education requirements; meets health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
