Pay Range Information:

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.


Job Description Summary:

The Marketing Strategist is a critical marketing planner, doer and partner relationship owner in Chapman University's Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC) department. In collaboration with SMC's marketing team, SMC leaders and colleagues and designated University partners, this role collaborates to develop, execute and optimize marketing efforts for campaigns related to the University's strategic priorities. This role is a key liaison to the graduate admissions office, assigned schools and colleges in their portfolio as directed, and to other partners as appropriate. This role is responsible for researching, developing and communicating strategic marketing plans to meet partner and University goals; providing strategic marcomm consultations within and outside of SMC; and developing plans, content and other materials to advance their scope of work. This position reports to the Director of Marketing in SMC.


Responsibilities:


Marketing Development


  • Steward the Chapman University brand and serve as the liaison between internal teams and on campus clients ("partners").

  • Support marketing & communications functions across campus.

  • Develop annual strategic plan deliverables including some or all of the following:

    • Audience lifecycle development

    • Journey building

    • Secondary (online) research

    • Data analysis

    • Objective planning

    • Media planning

    • Budgeting

    • Report writing

    • Formal presentations

    • Content (e.g., marketing copy, ads, brochures, one sheets, etc)




  • Plan, create and promote marketing services, tools and products.

  • Monitor, review and report on pertinent marketing activities.

  • Research and advise on advertising options, including print, outdoor, email, social and paid advertising, organic.

  • Help manage media vendor relationship and planning processing.

  • Troubleshoot problems that arise in the marketing process to ensure compliance and project professionalism.

  • Maintain files and information on contacts, solution description, active projects, website content, etc.




Market Research and Data Analysis

  • Work with Director of Marketing on market research efforts that provide information for decision-making.

  • Become intimately familiar with research tools, and use those tools to conduct discovery and provide synthesis and analysis on consumers, categories, brands, markets, industry trends, etc.

  • Measures the success of communication efforts including auditing and assessing communications' vehicles.

  • Provide feedback to colleagues on language and design layout of marketing material.

  • Collaborate with and present data to university clients ("partners")

  • Communicate updates of marketing materials to university clients ("partners") prior to publishing.




Partner with Creative Development Teams

  • Work with SMC's Creative and other teams to ensure proper internal alignment and communication with and on-campus ("partners").


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's in English, communications, marketing, business, public relations or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience.

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a marketing and/or communication role, preferably with higher education and graduate-level recruitment experience.

  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize multiple projects, and complete them in a timely manner.

  • Understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the proven ability to prepare and proofread clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence and other documents.

  • Extraordinary skills in organizing and planning, problem analysis and problem solving

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the university.

  • Strong technical skills to learn enterprise system, software and tools.

  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.

  • Knowledge of marketing principles and concepts.

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures for Chapman University and the department; able to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.


Desired Qualifications:



  • Comfortable with formal/group presentations; persuasive, adaptable, stress tolerant.

  • Experience in media selection and negotiation.

  • Experience with web/internet marketing and advertising.

  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter with good communication skills.
