As part of the Professional and Career Development team in the
Graduate College at the University of Vermont, the Career Counselor will serve as a student-facing point of contact for UVM's growing graduate student population across the disciplines. Help create and implement data- and outcomes-driven professional development and career preparation initiatives to prepare graduate students for long-term career success across all sectors. Collaborate with academic units, graduate programs, faculty, and students, Career Center and other campus partners, alumni, and external stakeholders to support graduate professional and career development. Develop and implement trainings in a virtual or hybrid format. Guide Master's students in developing an awareness of their values, interests, skills, and competencies; coach them on how to find and pursue relevant experiences; advise them in developing job search strategies, producing effective application materials, and honing interview skills. Leverage excellent networking skills to develop and foster robust networks of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers. Help envision and execute regular communications and coordinate events.
Master's degree and one to three years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Effective skills in relationship building, networking, program development and facilitation, communication/promotion, harnessing technology, coaching/advising, and event planning. Experience with professional and career development in academic or professional settings.Ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals across units on multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
Experience serving the career needs of a diverse domestic and international advanced degree student population. Knowledge of current employment trends for graduates with a Master's degree. Experience developing and implementing trainings face-to-face and online. Experience providing career coaching for graduate students. Diversity of professional experiences across sectors (industry, academia, non-profit, government).
