The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has a full time Ophthalmic Technician 1 position currently open to work in Miami. The Ophthalmic Technician 1 (H) performs appropriate clinical testing and understands the theory, principles and practice of eye care. The incumbent completes documentation in the EMR system, in compliance with department standards.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares exam rooms for daily clinical activities.
Monitors and maintains the appropriate levels of minor equipment, dry goods, and pharmaceuticals in clinic.
Responsible for detailed documentation in the EMR system.
Tests patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
Examines eye for abnormalities. Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
Measures intraocular pressure of eyes. Tests patient's field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and charts test results on graph paper.
Measures axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment.
Completes intravitreal injection (IVI) preparation for patients.
Facilitates motility exams. Performs other related tests and measurements.
Administers placement of hard and soft contact lenses.
Performs technical workups and special testing.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
