Job Description:

Essential Duties:


  • Responsible for the following:

  • Operates a Point of Sale (POS) system and manages cash transactions (accepting payment for food using cash register, use of credit and debt cards, and provides proper receipts and/or change)

  • Receives and prepares food daily

  • Inventory when supplies are low

  • Order and receive food supplies

  • Maintains cleanliness in the mini-café breakroom

  • Assists customers, and handles customer concerns and complaints, alert Manager and/or Director of any issues.

  • Follows safety regulations

  • Responsible for supplying the food, utensils and condiments in the Mini-Cafe at DHWC.

  • Responsible for handling financial transactions and creating financial reports at the end of the day making sure that order receipts reconcile to the amount of money collected, and reports are forwarded to Manager, Director and the assigned Accountant at the end of the week.

  • Monitors the reach-in cooler for appropriate temperature settings.

  • Receives, verifies and accepts vendor food deliveries as needed.

  • Check assigned work schedule for special events, superday, etc., and prepare for daily operations.

  • Ensure that the storage areas are clean and well stocked.

  • Keep the floor clean and maintain it free of food and spills, and arrange trash bins for deposal.

  • Ensure cleanliness standards are met in areas of responsibility, and alert Manager and/or Director to adverse conditions.


  • Assists with maintaining accurate inventory of stock and supplies, and stores food bank orders.

  • Assists in preparing bags and inventory for the food pantry program.

  • During certain events and/or superdays, may be asked to assist the kitchen staff at the Wesley Café with kitchen duties such as dishwashing, inventory, preparing emergency food bags, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Additional duties

  • Adheres to state, local, and federal regulations and all MHM safety and sanitation standards.

  • Advocates and maintains a safe/clean environment.

  • Assures quality and sanitation of all food: labeled/dated/rotated correctly.

  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Salary:

Hourly rate begins at $17.00. Mid range at $18.62. Actual starting rate will be commensurate with experience and education.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. At least 6 months of cash handling experience in a similar retail/food service environment required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must obtain and maintain Food Handler Certification. Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record.

Language Skills:

Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to speak effectively with customers or employees of the organization (diverse audiences). Must be fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to deal with problems in standardized situations. Position involves little to no latitude for judgment with regard to attainment of standards.

Computer Skills:

Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the internet and is able to log in and out of computerized timecard ADP system.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a cafeteria environment having direct contact with patients and clients and a kitchen environment that exposes to and/or requires use of various types of equipment and utensils. Position necessitates fingering, reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, climbing step stools, walking, sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 25 pounds. Must be able to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment as required.
