The Experienced Mobile Mechanic makes repairs to all mobile equipment in plant and quarry including skid steer loaders, forklifts, pickups, welders, trucks, all heavy equipment, diesel and gasoline engines.
Essential Functions
Accurately and promptly diagnose specific problems on mobile equipment.
Overhaul and rebuild diesel and gasoline engines in accordance with specifications.
Repair or rebuild transmissions with efficiency.
Adjust or replace worn out clutches and perform driveline repairs.
Repair power takeoff units.
Will repair air conditioners and heaters.
Perform brake repairs and adjustments on mobile equipment.
Trouble shoots electrical and hydraulic problems and makes the necessary repairs or replacements and interprets schematics on electrical and hydraulic systems.
Cut, weld and fabricate when necessary.
Perform and retain records on preventative maintenance of equipment.
Perform responsibilities safely and maintain a clean workplace.
Utilize parts manual and online resources for ordering parts.
Assists with training co-workers as needed
Performs general clean-up of work areas
Follows safety policies and procedures as written
Reads manuals, uses hand tools, power tools to perform repairs and maintenance to electrical systems, power transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other automotive systems to perform repair work
Operates mobile equipment as needed
Performs other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability and skills to diagnose and repair mobile equipment including diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, clutches, drivelines, electrical and hydraulic systems, heating and air conditioning systems, power takeoffs, brakes, etc.
Basic welding skills
40 hours per week and overtime on an as needed basis
Must have a current valid driver's license and good driving record.
Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
Must be able to read and understand operating manuals for mobile equipment operated.
Must be able to drive and operate mobile equipment using levers and pedals to operate.
Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent GED required
3 - 5 years' experience of maintaining light to heavy mobile equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered, is required
Trade School or related mechanical / technical certification preferred
Experience with Heavy Duty Mobile Equipment in Mining - Diesel Mechanic certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability and initiative to make sound decisions
Excellent work and safety record
Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
Ability to be on call 24/7 as needed
Physical Requirements
Work requires the ability to sit, stand, stoop, walk, long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and bend for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours)
High degree of manual dexterity and accuracy required
Must be able to use hand tools and electronic test equipment such as multi-meters and scopes
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground)
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use basic hand tools
Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
Working Conditions
Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments.Incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights..May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS's)
