Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) welcomes a dedicated professional with expertise in performing administrative intelligence and project management tasks. The chosen candidate should have strong interpersonal skills; an ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines; initiate, review and manage projects; fuse, track and analyze data; research policy and best practices; identify and improve processes. This is a Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) assignment at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). All CIU members may be temporarily assigned to another facility as needed.

DUTIES:
Intelligence gathering for investigations. Completes interviews of inmates received at the institutions to determine threat assessments, prior incarcerations, disciplinary reports, leadership roles, etc. Serves as team member to the Omaha facility intel teams; responsible for attendance and work assignments, conducts follow-up investigations on staff and/or offenders, as directed by intel supervisor and/or facility warden.


Assists other intel team members with directed searches of staff, inmates, mail, deliveries and visitors. Screens inmate transfers and room assignments for Institutional Classification Committee to reduce potential problems or disruptions to facility operations. Oversees the facility video surveillance monitoring efforts by selection, training and performance outcomes of all team members assigned this duty.


Assists in preparation and presentation of weekly or bi-weekly intel status briefings for facility wardens and executive team and drafts intel teams monthly reports. Assists in the review of daily shift critical incident reports and development of an intel plan and strategy in response to actual or potential threat reports to inmates, staff and good order of the facility.



Requirements / Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications: Post-high school coursework/training in Criminal Justice or related Behavioral field and three years of progressively responsible corrections experience. Experience or coursework/training in supervision and leadership. Must be able to legally possess firearms and ammunition.



Preferred Qualifications: Experience working for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. Two years in a supervisory role. Experience in developing and understanding trends in culture that affect organizations. Experience gathering and fusing intelligence in a prison setting and/or high security environment. Experience preparing and interpreting reports.



Other: Valid driver's license required. Must have flexibility to work extended hours/days in response to institutional emergencies. Will be required to obtain and maintain certification as an intel analyst, intel database systems, investigations/interview techniques and intel product development. Applicant accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program
