Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a skilled, highly motivated person to lead the building laborers or tradespersons in the performance of intermediate-level facility maintenance activities. This position will lead the labor-intensive areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry work, welding, masonry, building repair/maintenance, heating/cooling, and ventilation work. The Maintenance Specialist II will lead the team in minor renovation projects, painting, carpet replacement, and ceiling tile replacement.


You will be joining a professional building maintenance team located in the headquarters of NDOT. Your work will be primarily in the Lincoln metro area with some overnight travel to remote locations throughout the state that serve as scale facilities and laboratory facilities.

JOB DUTIES:



  • Lead a team in the performance of preventative/predictive maintenance procedures as scheduled, and enter/maintain preventative maintenance data and reports.

  • Lead/participate in office remodeling and construction projects: carpet, ceiling, painting, and lights.

  • Assist with snow removal operations; requires before and after business hours work.

  • Operate/Program building automation system (METASYS), troubleshoot and repair components.

  • Maintain equipment and parts inventory.

  • Coordinate the maintenance of emergency generators, underground fuel tanks, and associated records.

  • Lead/coordinate the movement of staff to and from office suites, including the assembly of system furniture and the moving of occupant's possessions.




Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance/construction trades and one year of experience in building maintenance or a mechanical trade. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. OR An Associate degree or equivalent vocational education in HVAC and one year of experience servicing/maintaining/repairing HVAC systems. Experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Occupational and safety precautions of the building and mechanical trades.

  • Experience in Building Automation Software and Hardware.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC components.




Other: Must have a valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.



KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:



Knowledge of /Skills in:

  • commercial building maintenance and all construction trades.

  • preventative maintenance software programs.

  • practices, tools, equipment, materials, and techniques of one or more building and mechanical trades.

  • electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and office remodeling.

  • electronic filing is a plus.



Ability to:

  • assist the Manager with project estimates, submit material lists and track costs.

  • order materials, schedule deliveries and maintain records.
