Job Description

Product Assurance Engineering Co-Op : Reliability

The Product Assurance Reliability Engineering team provides testing and analysis for prototypes that are in development. This role will allow a co-op to work with Reliability Engineering Team to develop an understanding of the product assurance process by developing / improving a test fixture for the Reliability lab.

Reliability Engineering currently has multiple automated test fixtures that exercise design prototypes. The co-op will independently evaluate existing testers and provide suggestions for improvement. This process will consist of design reviews and exposure to multiple concepts around product durability. These testers are used to verify that newly designed products meet the reliability / durability requirements for cycling connectors, headband components, earcups etc. Use of these testers can be cumbersome to set up in instances requiring precision. This project will improve the tester to increase throughput by adding capability and correcting some of the limitations that we have gleaned over multiple development projects.

The co-op will:

  • Utilize MakerSpace and Reliability lab resources to design & build new parts.

  • Brainstorm and implement a way to create boundary conditions & prevent over extension / compression.

  • Simplify fixture design to optimize setup time & mistake-proof the test execution.

  • Determine tester force capacity limits / capabilities.

  • Develop additional fixtures that would accommodate new modes of testing.

Qualifications:

Student working towards a degree in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering. However, we will also consider candidates with other science backgrounds that have a strong drive to be hands on with developing / improving existing or new concepts.

This project will require theoretical analysis to identify improvements but will also require a 'hands-on' approach for implementation. CAD design experience and exposure to software is a plus but not a requirement.
