Responsibilities
Purpose:
The Project Engineer will be a member of the segment team reporting to the Business Segment Manager. Their role is to work with project managers and their technical teams to assure that the solution that is architected, designed, and installed meets the customer’s requirements from initial startup. When unforeseen system performance issues are identified, the Project Engineer will work with the team and end customer to identify and implement potential solutions.
The Project Engineer to have experience as a field or software engineer and have been exposed to a variety of projects in several industries. They will be assigned to projects from initial conception to customer signoff and must possess a strong sense of ownership. They will also be requested to support other project teams with specific challenges. This individual must be a data driven person that can work with the project team (internal and external) to guide them in root cause analysis and solutioning.
Responsibilities:
Assist application / sales process
Assist with technical sections of proposal
Manage proposal template for appropriate terminology and technical solutions
Develop a standard requirement/questionnaire required for estimating project
Create guidelines for various applications / vehicle types
Review desired system requirements (throughput, conveyor rates, interfaces, etc)
Review system performance requirements and ensure system meets design requirements
Assist with developing the technical sections of the Functional Requirements Specification, DOO, etc
Evaluate and refine the road system and operation needed to meet performance requirements
Assist in defining system performance capabilities
Preform overall application risk scoring
Liaise with customer on technical solutions, data mining, and KPIs related to system performance
Safety Risk Assessments
Engage customers on potential risks (site visits as needed) and generate risk assessments
Monitor and validate risk mitigations are performed according to project requirements
Attend project meetings as needed (vehicle, road system, software, etc) with a focus on overall System Design
Performance
Evaluate throughput, layout, and simulation inputs
Develop a customer dashboard to track project progress against KPIs
Review reports to ensure project is meeting expectations
Vehicle Testing
Working with the test department develop vehicle test plans for all applications, sensors, technologies, etc
Site Commissioning and Go Live
Work with the project team to identify performance trends
Track internal and external KPIs to ensure project is on track technically
Qualifications
Requirements:
Knowledge and Skills:
BS or MS in Engineering Discipline
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Creative problem solving and willingness to explore new methods
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Visio, Word, and AutoCAD
Data driven and able to analyze trends using excel or equivalent tools
Ability to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects simultaneously
Effective written and verbal communicator, with outstanding listening skills
Demonstrates a strong sense of project ownership
Passionate about machine and systems optimization
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in Project Management, field, or software engineering in the automation industry
Special Position Requirements:
25% domestic and international travel (including Kingston, NY for FATs)
